Looking for things to do for couples in Sydney that aren’t dinner and a movie? Spend a session at Tufttea’s North Strathfield studio designing and tufting a rug together — something you’ll actually keep, and a lot more memorable than another reservation.
A date idea you can both take home
You don’t need any experience. Our instructors teach you how to use the tufting gun, help you choose your colours and guide you through your design step by step. All tools and materials are provided — just bring a design idea.
- Share one rug or make one each. Pricing is per rug made, so couples are welcome to share a single frame.
- Design it together. Pick colours that mean something, add your initials or an inside joke — it’s entirely your design.
- Keep it. In most cases your rug comes home with you the same day.
How long does it take?
Most workshops run for around 2–5 hours depending on your design and rug size: 40x40cm takes 2–3 hours, 60x60cm 3–4 hours (our most popular size) and 90x90cm 4–5 hours.
When to book
Our Sydney studio sessions run Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 9:00am – 7:00pm, so it works best as a weekend date. Weekend sessions book up, so we recommend booking 2–3 weeks ahead where you can.
We provide some light snacks and drinks and you’re welcome to bring your own. Alcohol can’t be consumed in the studio during the workshop, so plan a celebratory drink for before or after.

Studio sessions run Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 9:00am – 7:00pm. Private weekday sessions are available on request — contact us to arrange one. We are a quick 3–5 minute walk from North Strathfield station, and our shop has an all-day car park, with plenty of on-street parking as well.

Can we share one rug?
Yes! We charge per rug made, so you are welcome to bring a partner to share making the rug with.
Do we need any experience?
Not at all! Our tufting workshops are 100% beginner-friendly. We will teach you how to use the tufting gun, choose colours, and guide you through the process from start to finish.
How long does a tufting workshop take?
Most workshops run for around 2–5 hours depending on the design and rug size: 40x40cm takes 2–3 hours, 60x60cm 3–4 hours and 90x90cm 4–5 hours.
Do we take the rug home the same day?
In the majority of cases, yes — you’ll be able to take your rug home on the same day once it’s finished.
Can we bring food and drinks?
Yes! We provide some light snacks and drinks, but you are welcome to bring your own as well. Please note that alcohol is not permitted to be consumed in the studio during the workshop.
What is the minimum age?
Our recommended minimum age to participate in our tufting workshops is 12 years old. Participants under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
